Cotton paper and humidity
Dry cotton stock cracks along the fold. Two days in the damp box and the same stock takes a deep impression without complaint. The workshop hygrometer was the cheapest useful thing we ever bought.

Two hundred sheets is not twice the work of one hundred. The setup dominates, and quoting by the sheet loses money on every short job. We quote the setup separately now.
Ink left on the rollers overnight costs a morning. We clean while the press is still warm and the ink is still soft, which nobody enjoys and everybody should do.
